Should my insurance company pay for my sink repairs?

Hi there,

Just less than a year ago I had an insurance claim dealing with my dishwasher that exploded one day. The plumbing under my kitchen sink needed to be redone so the insurance company sent out a plumber. Unfortunately, not being a plumber myself, I did not "check" his work, nor did anyone from the insurance company come out to check if his work was done properly and up to code. Until tonight, when my sink was backing up. Nothing would unclog it. We tried plunging, we tried liquid plumber, and we tried a snake. Then someone told me about the "pea trap" and that I should put a bucket under the pipe and unscrew the screw thingy and the bucket will catch the water and hopefully whatever was clogging the sink will come out as well. The problem: The pea trap is less than an inch from the floor of my cupboard, thus leaving me with no room to be able to put a bucket underneath... (see picture). Should the insurance company be liable for the repairs that I'm going to have to have done tomorrow or should I be responsible?

Home Insurance usually covers the resulting damage that is caused by say an escape of water, so in my opinion, you may be covered against this although there may be something in your policy wording against deliberate acts and you insurers may try to use this as a means of not paying your claim.
Perhaps try inserting a small tray under the trap to catch any water if that’s possible, one other problem if you do make a claim, is that there is almost certainly going to be a deductible and you may lose your no claims bonus.
