It depends upon your homeowner's insurance. Most insurance companies will offer a rider to protect you from that type of damage. However, you probably do not want to claim this on your homeowner's insurance. Laptops are cheap, and making claims on your policy will cause your rates to increase. In the long run, you'll save more money by not claiming the damage to your laptop.
