October is usually the month when employers have open enrollment for health plans. With the new health care law, it is important for employees to review their health care utilization and be sure they get the coverage they need lest they default to the company plan that may not be suitable.

Good news: No lifetime cap. Parents can include their dependent children until age 26. Covers annual physical and some preventive services.

Watch out for: Change in family premiums. Some plans no longer have single premium for family plan but may have individual charge for each family member. Review your previous year health care expense so you can adjust your flexible spending account.
