Thread: Why is Health Insurance so Expensive

You can't point a finger to a single reason why health insurance is so expensive. There are several factors that contribute to the sky-high cost of HI. One is the expensive price tag of health care. Other factors are administrative cost, legal concerns, provider power and supply. The cost of HI will surely skyrocket as the year goes by, which is bad news because it increases four times faster than the annual increase of wages. If this continues, who can afford a health insurance?!

Health insurance insurance is just too expensive because the quality of care is high. However, there are alternatives. Enroll in a government-sponsored program provided you pass their stringent income guidelines; apply for Medicaid, the government-funded program for families who are below the poverty program; or rely on mandatory emergency care at your local hospital. All of these alternatives, especially the latter, add to the cost of healthcare .

    Well.
Medical expenses are way too higher. The doctors charge too much from us.
Health condition is a lot more unpredictable than anything else.
You yourself are not aware of how your health condition is going to change and the insurance companies try to take the advantage of it. As you know, the are here to make profits.
Health conditions can be so volatile that the insurance companies themselves bear the risk that the possibility of having to pay out is way too higher.
If you consider excuses there might be a lot like these that are considered responsible for higher HI expenses. However,at the end,it`s money that speaks.

I'm taking a class in administration right now - and one of the questions asked was: "Would you rather pay for today's medical costs for today's services, or price of health costs in the 50s and receive 1950's health services?"

Of course I answered the former, but not without realizing that we pay a lot for innovation and medical strides - we need to focus on better allocation and utilization management.

This health insurance having normal expenditure as well is meant to meet unexpected expenditure which the any person would not normally be able to join, or would have great difficulty in meeting, without insurance.

Well, the health insurance is expensive because healthcare itself is very expensive.

It is expensive due to so much government regulations, due to fear of lawsuits, and due to so many non paying patients.
