Most people get insurance for their dogs, but what about the cats? I just got a cat, and I am a bit confused here to be honest. Should I get an insurance for her or not? I live in an apartment, and the cat doesn't go outside. Is it worth getting an insurance?

Your cat could still get ill even if you dont let her out... it depends on whether you have rainy day money that you could use if she needed to get treatment.

On the subject of should you purchase pet insurance I want to make the following disclaimer I do not sell this product. Even though your cat does not go outside it could still come down with an illness that is treatable but expensive such as cancer. Should you insure your pet for this expense is up to you and based on a couple of factors. 1. Do you have a rainy day fund that could cover this 2. Could you use credit to cover the expense and pay it off over time. 3. Could you be as heartless as me and put the animal to sleep instead of treating it. 3A. Do you have chrildren that will force you to save their pet and not letting you use option 3. ![]() Sorry about the heartless part I wanted a little humor.

Well, insurance is not always the same as insurance. There is (third party) liability insurance (e.g. your cat causes an accident) and health insurance (if your cat gets ill). First, you have to decide what kind of insurance you need/want for the cat, then you have to contact some insurance companies and compare the quotes, pet insurances can be quite expensive depending on the coverage. There is also combined insurance that includes liability, health, etc.

I guess it depends on how concerned you are. personally for an indoor cat it might not be necessary although they can get some pretty nasty diseases, even without that much interaction with other cats (feline aids, feline asthma, cancer) usually later on in their lives.
i also think its important to keep in mind that cats often hide when somethings wrong with them, so sometimes something can be left longer before you notice it and you may end up having to take your cat in. its a little bit different of an issue, but id say go for it.

I wouldn`t care if I where I would live at a house or appartment. I would still get an insurance for my pet, dog or cat. It just seem the right thing to do...
